Parent helpers

We greatly appreciate parents' help and welcome parents' involvement in all aspects of the Bicicletta learning community. Here's some ideas of things you could help with.
Helping children learn
We know that many of you have particular skills that you would like to share with the kids, such as gardening, languages and philosophy. You may also have a particular interest that you would like to explore with the children, or something that you are working on at home with your own child that you would like to introduce to the group. If so, please let us know when you would like to come in and lead a small group of children in this area. It doesn't have to be anything complicated, even reading a story to a small group, discussing and retelling it is a really worthwhile activity and we would love to have you here to share it with us. Ideas:
  • Individual reading with children to give them confidence with their take home readers.
  • Help children during project time with their projects.
  • Run workshops with the kids during project time.
Making inspiring and beautiful learning spaces
Having a beautiful environment helps inspire children to be curious and to learn. In May, Bicicletta parents organised to "green" the Terrace. If you have other ideas - big or small - please let us know. Things you might like to do include:
  • re-arranging the room to improve how it looks and feels,
  • bringing in interesting objects and resources for children to use.
Ongoing day-to-day tasks
  • organise stationery
  • sharpening pencils
  • putting stools up on the bench at the end of the day
  • emptying the recycling bins (needs doing on a regular basis – our Preps are too small to reach the big bins that ours get emptied into)
  • watering plants on the Terrace
  • sweep the Terrace
Occasional tasks
From time to time we ask for help with tasks such as assembling furniture, painting a noticeboard and repairing broken things. We are also rostered to run the Friday Market one a term. Keep an eye on the Bicicletta blog noticeboard for our request for help with these tasks, or just drop in and ask if there's anything you can help with.
